Hate Mail: From a Mormon

Trying to disprove truth is a really tough job so why even bother. Many have tried
and ALL have failed. Apostates never really had a testimony so this makes them a
very bad source for info. Advice: Save your time, money and effort because what
you seek ain't gonna happen. PS The Book of Mormon Jesus is the same one that is
in the Bible and you won't be able to change that either so my advice is to repent
and come back to the real Church of Jesus Christ before it becomes to late.

(My Response)

Greetings, Thanks for the email. None of us have ever been Mormons. God
saved us by His redeeming Grace, as He saw fit. He then burdened us for
you Mormons. Actually, refuting Mormonism is easy. Its dealing with the
people that is a tough job (ie: your email). We bother, because we deeply
care for the souls of the lost, plus, Christ commanded us to: Jude 3-4; 1
Peter 3:15; etc. If you don't see it, then that's fine, God is sovereign,
He is not weak, He is mighty to save. His will will be done, not ours. The
God of the Bible is much greater and magnificent than the mere puny
"exalted" man of Mormonism. The God of the Bible is Triune, the god of the
book of Mormon is modalistic, which is even different then the god of the
D&C. Even then, the Gospel of Mormonism is radically different then the
Bible, so even on that basis, we reject it. So defend your faith and come
up with something other than ad hominem, we've heard it all before.

Soli Deo Gloria,
Mark II

  1. Sure it's easy to refute Mormonism...

When you selectively pick only the stupidest versions of it to attack.

Kind of like how Hitchens and Dawkins only pick the stupidest versions of Christianity to attack.

  2. Hey Seth, can you explain to me what you mean by "stupidest versions" and how, like Dawkins and Hitchens, I am doing this? Thanks.

  3. I am going to ask that you try to refrain from "making bold assertions without backing them up", as you wrote on your profile on Nine Moons. Thank you for your time, and nice to meet you too.

  4. Well, since you didn't do anything in your original post, except sneer about how "easy" it is to refute Mormonism without providing anything specific, I can hardly go into specifics myself, now can I?

And weren't you just talking about ad hominem stuff?

So what's the first thing you did with me?

Check the profile and see if you can dig up some dirt. Then immediately shift the focus to my character rather than the issues - along with threatening to ban me if I prove to be "too mean" even though I have so far given no sign of doing so.

Are you really this insecure in your position?

Traditional Christianity has some very good defenses, you should have more faith in them without feeling the need to go personal this early in the discussion.

  5. Seth, I'm sorry if it sounded as if I were name calling or threatening to ban you. I wasn't, or at least that wasn't my intention. And I wasn't trying to "dig up dirt" on you. I just wanted to learn more about you so that I didn't just ask random questions that you had already answered else where. No, I'm not insecure in my beliefs. I think I just didn't articulate myself as well as I was hoping to. The first part of your comment is exactly the point I was trying to make. I hadn't said anything specific yet, and you were insinuating that I was doing what Dawkins and Hitchens were doing. Also, my portion of the post was merely a response. It wasn't meant to be exhaustive, as the ministry that I work with has loads of information already, and this was just a snide email that we received. And when I said, thank you for your time and nice to meet you to, I wasn't being sarcastic. So I say again, thanks and sorry about the misunderstanding.

  6. That's fine, don't worry about it. And if you don't want to raise any points of debate, I won't think less of you for it. Your explanation that this was just in response to an email you didn't like makes sense. I've encountered plenty of fellow Mormons on the internet whose arguments make me wince and wish they'd just shut up.

I'll just state that I have read a lot of the counter-cult ministry literature, and I personally do not think refuting Mormonism is easy. But that's just me.

    Sorry that I misunderstood you.

  7. Thanks for the response Seth. Refuting Mormonism in my opinion is easy, however, convincing someone is not. I hope to be writing on the topic itself more in the near future, but I have a lot on my plate right now. I have ten books that I have started and need to finish, that plus a full time job and a part time job isn't conducive to any kind of a writing schedule. Thanks for your frankness and I hope you'll keep in touch. Take care.
